Phoenix wins VRCA 2018 Awards of Excellence Silver Award
Phoenix Glass is proud to announce they have won silver at the 2018 Vancouver Regional Construction Awards of Excellence (VRCA) for their role in the Harwood project. Receiving the Founder’s Trade Award in the Trade Contractors $3 – $7 million category was an honour well-earned for the complex and unique craftsmanship that went into creating this building.
About the project
1245 Harwood, Bing Thom Architect’s graceful residential building, was designed to tuck perfectly into it’s compact footprint. The streamlined 17-storey building boosts elegant curved lines and walls of glass that wrap around the exterior. Phoenix Glass worked closely with the project’s design team, solving complex problems with years of experience and out-of-the-box thinking. Phoenix Glass manufactured one-of-a-kind moveable perforated stainless steel screens on the sunny south-facing side of the building that provide subtle artistic patterns while allowing homeowners to control light, shade and privacy. Perforated laser-cut stainless steel roof top canopy panels were also incorporated.
The project also includes custom unitized 4SSG curtain wall that was purpose built and laboratory tested specifically for the Harwood project. The curtain wall includes frameless glass vents to complete a seamless exterior appearance and curved glass panels to add to the visual effect. The unitized curtain wall also incorporated insulated backpans with stainless steel sheet. The elegant porte cochere was a challenging feature due to the geometry of the structure. Phoenix Glass designed the underlying steel structure to support and fasten the custom stainless steel panels to complete the façade.
Phoenix Glass is incredibly proud to have completed this challenging and unique structure.
