A joint project of BC Housing, the Government of Canada and the City of Vancouver, 250 Powell is a transformative project. From a vacant former Remand Centre for prisoners, the building which houses the Community Court on its lower level will now be home to light-filled apartments for at-risk youth.

Originally designed by architect Richard Henriquez in 1981, in a twist of fate it is son Gregory Henriquez leading the challenging project which involves dismantling a heavily reinforced prison that offered little in terms of natural light. Expansive new windows by Phoenix Glass will showcase the one-of-a-kind city and mountain views within the apartment units that are connected by shared amenity spaces.

Phoenix will begin work on the project in June 2014.
